Where to eat & drink near Field Cottage

Local Herefordshire produce, cider and food

Herefordshire is one of Britain's great larders — famous for its beef, its apples and, above all, its cider. Whether you fancy cooking up a feast in the cottage kitchen or being looked after at a cosy country pub, you'll eat well during your stay. Here's where to start.

Country pubs

The villages around Peterstow and Ross-on-Wye are dotted with welcoming country pubs serving hearty, locally sourced food and well-kept ales. Many have roaring fires in winter and gardens for summer, and most are happy to welcome dogs and families alike.

Farm shops & local produce

For self-catering at its best, stock up at one of the area's excellent farm shops. You'll find local cheeses, freshly baked bread, seasonal vegetables, free-range eggs and Herefordshire beef — everything you need for a memorable meal back at the cottage.

Tip: pick up a bottle of local cider or perry to enjoy in the garden — it's the taste of Herefordshire in a glass.

Cider country

You can't visit Herefordshire without sampling its cider. The county has a long and proud cider-making tradition, and several producers welcome visitors for tastings and tours. Look out for traditional, single-orchard ciders that you simply won't find elsewhere.

Cafes & treats

  • Ross-on-Wye: independent cafes for coffee, cake and light lunches.
  • Symonds Yat: riverside spots perfect for a paddle-side bite.
  • Delis: stock up on local cheese, charcuterie and chutneys to take home.

However you like to eat, the cottage's fully equipped kitchen, dining room and garden barbecue mean you've got every option covered.
