Accessibility at Field Cottage
We want to make Field Cottage and its annexe as welcoming as possible for all our guests, while being honest about what's achievable in a house built in 1850. Below is a room-by-room guide so you can decide whether the property suits your needs. If you have any questions at all, please get in touch and we'll happily help.
Some areas are wheelchair accessible with a small step, though support from others in your party is likely to be needed. There are no specialist bathroom rails or hoists. The property is likely to suit:
- Older and less mobile guests
- Part-time wheelchair users
- Assisted wheelchair users
The main house
- Level entrance via the kitchen door (70 cm door, with around 50 cm clear access due to cupboards).
- Dining room, kitchen and snug are all on one level.
- A small step down to the downstairs shower room, then a step up to the shower and living area.
- Handrails on both sides of the stairs; all four house bedrooms are upstairs.
The annexe
- A small step up at both the front and back doors — a ramp is available (70 cm width door).
- Ground-floor double bedroom and shower room, with the living room and kitchen upstairs.
Annexe bedroom
- Bedroom door width approximately 70 cm.
- One accessible, ground-floor bedroom. All bedrooms are non-smoking.
- Electrical sockets within reach.
- No carpets — wooden flooring throughout.
- Non-allergenic bedding and pillows.
Annexe bathroom
- En-suite shower room, door width approximately 70 cm; the door is light and opens outward.
- Around 1 m of space in front of the toilet.
- Wet-room shower with a non-slip surface and adjustable showerhead height.
Gardens & parking
- Gardens are at ground level. Please note the yard is loose stone, which may be difficult for wheelchair users without support.
- Accessible parking is available on site.
- A toilet area for guide/assistance dogs.
- Garden areas are largely free from trip hazards, though the loose-stone pathway may need assistance.
Other information
- All Chromecast TVs (located in the living areas, not the bedrooms) can display subtitles.
- Assistance animals are always welcome.
- There are no security cameras on site.
